Bob’s compassion and non-judgmental way allows his clients to learn methods to control unwanted emotions, communicate effectively, and achieve their individual therapy goals.
Bob’s interest in helping people started at an early age. While attending Sarasota High School, he was instrumental in developing a school outreach and peer-counseling program for Storefront Center for Counseling. Today this center operates under the name of Coastal Behavioral Health.
During his extensive career he was Director of Adult Services (Addiction and Mental Health) for Manatee Glens and created the first addiction program at Glen Oaks Hospital (now Centerstone). As Vice President of The Residential Center for First Step of Sarasota he skillfully developed and ran treatment programs for addiction disorders, co-occurring Mental Illness and Forensic Criminal Justice programs. Bob has worked tirelessly to help Communities of Manatee and Sarasota understand and treat addiction as a progressive, chronic brain based disease that can’t be “cured” but can be successfully managed.
Bob is experienced and proficient in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Enhanced Therapy.
Most recently he wrote a successful $500,000 grant which will be used to train recovering residents of Manatee County to become Certified Recovery Peer Specialists in an effort to fight the states’ leading death rate from improper use of opioid drugs. For many years Bob maintained a private practice for the Karas Center and currently works with Dr. Quintal and Associates.
“My favorite saying from a long professional career is: When the student is ready the teacher appears!”
In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family and watching his grandchildren play sports.
